Daniel, finalist for the Pulitzer Prize

The Reuters photography staff, with our founding member among its photographers, has been named a finalist in Breaking News Photography for its coverage of the immigration raids across the United States.

The Pulitzer Prize Board announced the winners and finalists of its 2026 edition on Monday, May 4, at Columbia University in New York. Among the finalists in Breaking News Photography is the photography staff of Reuters. One of its photographers is Daniel, a founding member of MÓN.

The nomination recognizes the coverage of the immigration enforcement operations ordered by the Trump administration across the United States during 2025. The portfolio holds fifteen photographs made in California, Illinois, New York, Texas and other states, and the jury's citation describes its breadth and the immediate force of the images. The entry had first been submitted in Feature Photography; the jury moved it into Breaking News. One of the fifteen is Daniel's, made on July 10, 2025, in Camarillo, California. It shows demonstrators crouching in a field while federal agents guard an agricultural facility where an immigration operation had just taken place. The prize in the category went to Saher Alghorra, a contributor to The New York Times, for his series on the destruction and starvation in Gaza.
